Mater Health Services, Brisbane

About 70 people attended a health consultation with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon at Mater Health Services in Brisbane on Thursday 5 November.

Those attending included hospital staff, specialists, nurses and GPs, as well as representatives from local community services and the aged care sector.

Also attending the consultation were federal Member for Moreton, Graham Perrett, federal Member for Forde, Brett Raguse, and federal Member for Bonner, Kerry Rea.

Significant issues discussed with the Prime Minister and Minister Roxon included:

    • Simplification of the health system
    • Hospital waiting lists
    • Proposed purchasing authority for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services
    • Acknowledging the relevance of community-controlled health organisations in regional fund-holding models
    • The future role of the private health system
    • Health workforce
    • e-health
    • Health prevention strategies.
The Prime Minister concluded by encouraging participants to visit the yourHealth website to have their say.
