Joondalup Health Campus, Perth
On Thursday 21 January 2010 Parliamentary Secretary for Health Mark Butler held a roundtable discussion at the Joondalup Health Campus in Perth, Western Australia.
Attendees at the meeting included the Chief Executive Officer of the Joondalup Health Campus, Kempton Cowan, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr Glen Power, hospital staff, doctors, and representatives from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, the University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University and the Northern Metropolitan Health Service.
Significant issues discussed included:
- models of service delivery in the hospital system
- future funding of public and private sectors, and the need for a smooth transition to any new funding model
- after-care support for post-acute patients
- a greater availability of sub-acute beds
- boosting health workforces
- collaboration between universities and training hospitals
- balancing the ratio of visiting medical practitioners to salaried staff.
