Royal Darwin Hospital, Darwin

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was joined by Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon and Minister for Indigenous Health, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery Warren Snowdon at a health reform consultation with about 70 people at the Royal Darwin Hospital in the Northern Territory, on 22 January 2010.

Also taking part in proceedings were heads of hospital departments, GPs, and representatives from Indigenous and non-Indigenous health organisations and the aged care sector.

Issues discussed include:

  • The importance of working collaboratively in delivering the health care reform agenda
  • The importance of an Indigenous health workforce
  • Expanding health care delivery in remote areas
  • The role of carers in effective health care
  • The interface between health and aged care.

The Prime Minister and Ministers also toured the Rapid Admission Planning Unit of the hospital and met with patients and staff.
