Medicare Locals invitation to apply

02 Feb 2011News

The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing now invites applications for the establishment of Medicare Locals across Australia.

Medicare Locals may be formed by a single organisation or a group of organisations, a partnership, joint venture or consortium.

The first group of Medicare Locals will be drawn from high-performing Divisions of General Practice, preferably working together with other high-performing organisations that are able to lead primary health care reforms in their local area and can take on the roles and functions expected under the new arrangements. Applications for the first group close on 7 March 2011.

The subsequent group of Medicare Locals will build on the expertise and capacity of existing primary care organisations, particularly Divisions of General Practice, as well as other primary health care organisations and service providers. Applications for the second group close on 4 July 2011.
