The implementation plan - A National Health and Hospitals Network for Australia’s Future – Delivering the Reforms - provides details of implementation activities over coming months and years, including timelines and major milestones to implement the major health reform agreed by COAG in April 2010.

For the first time all Australians will soon be able to view important data about their public hospitals thanks to a new website being developed as part of the Government’s ambitious health reform agenda.

Delegates at the 12th National University Rural Health conference in Alice Springs have been told the Australian Government was committed to delivering an ambitious health reform agenda, which will support more health professionals to work and live in rural and regional Australia.
As part of the health reforms, the Australian Government will invest $416.8 million over four years to establish a network of primary health care organisations (Medicare Locals) across Australia. This includes funding to improve access to after hours primary care through Medicare Locals.
To inform development work on potential boundaries for Medicare Locals and Local Hospital Networks, the Department of Health and Ageing is seeking views from interested parties.
