Primary care infrastructure upgrades
To improve access to primary care services in Australia, the Government has invested $117 million in Primary Care Infrastructure Grants.
Funding through Primary Care Infrastructure Grants will improve existing facilities to provide expanded or upgraded space for GPs, nurses and/or allied health professionals; strengthened team based care services; extended hours, clinical training facilities and integrated GP and primary health care.
Under the 2010-11 round, approximately 239 general practices, primary care and community health services, and Aboriginal Medical Services are being improved with a Primary Care Infrastructure Grant.
The 2011-12 round closed in June 2011 and applications are currently being assessed. An announcement of shortlisted applicants is expected to occur in November 2011.
The Grants are provided through three streams of funding:
- Grants of up to $150,000 each;
- Grants of up to $300,000 each; and
- Grants of up to $500,000 each.
The Government is also providing funding to build GP Super Clinics across Australia.
