My Medicare Local
Medicare Locals will make it easier for patients to use and move through the primary health care system.
There are already 19 Medicare Locals operating around the country. They are making a real on-the-ground difference to the delivery of primary health care in their local regions. The Australian Government has now announced a further 38 new Medicare Locals. Of these, 18 will commence establishment and operational activities from 1 January 2012 and the remaining Medicare Locals will commence from 1 July 2012.
In total, there will be a network of 62 Medicare Locals nationwide ensuring people receive locally responsive primary health care.
While your GP will remain the centre of primary health care and continue to work with individual patients, Medicare Locals will be the “glue” that links all areas of the primary health care sector. They will identify local health needs and address gaps in local health services.
Local needs and local solutions.
